What is it ?

Freemasonry is an initiatory association which, through its symbolic teachings, elevates man spiritually and morally, and thus contributes to the improvement of Humanity through the practice of an ideal of peace, love, and brotherhood.

Freemasonry is addressed to those who seek sincerely, to those who ask real metaphysical and spiritual questions. It opens the way by awakening esoteric intuition, by unfolding a symbolic language that raises us beyond the limits of the finite, beyond this world so often confronted with the boundaries of human hope. Every Mason is convinced that the esoteric approach and the symbolism of the Masonic tradition can guide him toward the most exalted Beauty and toward a radiant Wisdom.

Traditional Masonic Initiation is an inner journey directed toward the deepest mysteries of existence. Freemasons carry the Light within themselves to illuminate a world that greatly needs it. It is a journey undertaken with the help of one’s Brothers, in sincere and warm fraternity, humbly oriented toward the search for harmony, inner unity, and Truth. Its aim is to allow each member to pursue his spiritual quest in a profound and peaceful manner within the initiatory order handed down by our Ancestors through beautiful rituals. Freemasonry seeks to make a good man better.

Through the language of symbols, Freemasonry extends a fraternal hand to those who, being free and sincere, have the will to perfect themselves and who seek the Light… without knowing that it lies deep within themselves, ready to blossom.

Reflection and symbolic research, but also fraternity, tolerance, respect for others, listening, generosity, and a love of life: these are some of the essential values to which Freemasons belonging to the Regular Grande Lodge of Belgium (RGLB) are attached.

Traditional Freemasonry is neither a religion nor a substitute for religion. It has no revelation of its own, no dogmas, and no spiritual leaders. It does not in any way seek to replace religions or churches. Its ideal is that each of its members, thanks to his Initiation, lives more intensely either his spirituality or his personal spiritual quest.
